Planning 2017

We are currently appointing new staff for 2017 to support our growth in numbers. At this stage we will be running with 18 classes, an increase of 4 classes from 2016. Next year, we are excited to announce that we will be running a Music/ Performing Arts program as an addition to our specialist areas. Further planning of structures and programs are underway and we will advise of these when confirmed.

Where will you be in 2017?

If you are leaving in 2017 to attend another school would you please inform the office urgently to assist us with our 2017 planning.

If you know of family or friends that are considering enrolling could you encourage them to contact the office as soon as possible.

Significant thought goes into establishing class groups for the following year. We want to ensure that all students are placed in classes to ensure their learning is optimised. Teachers will be allocated to their 2017 Professional Learning Teams and be running these sessions where possible.

Our whole school transition program begins on November, 23rd where students will rotate through structured tasks for a two hour period with teachers.

On November 28th, all students will be working in their 2017 class with their teacher for the day. This is a wonderful opportunity for all students and teachers to begin to get to know each other and set some goals and expectations for 2017.

Our final Transition Day is on Monday, 19th December where 2017 classes will get together again to touch base before the end of the 2016 school year ends.

Monday 31st October

A reminder to our school community that Monday 31st October is a normal school day and students are required to attend.

PLT News

Junior School Update

Well what a dynamic start to term four! The students have been working really hard in class, and their hard work is starting to pay off as they are completing some outstanding pieces already this term.

The first half of this term, we are focussing on writing Recounts. Students have been enjoying adding extra detail to their work as that has been a focus over the last few weeks. We have also been working on adding some interesting vocabulary, using connectives to add two words together and experimenting with different punctuation.

In the second half of the term, we will be engaging in Transactional Writing – letters, emails etc.

In Reading, we have had a heavy focus on two of our CAFÉ skills. We are focussing on “Skip a word and come back” and “Trade a word.” Whilst your reading with your children at home, you could ask them what these skills are and to demonstrate how to do it. These skills are helpful to enhance accuracy and therefore gain a deeper understanding of a text.

Its all about Place Value! The 1/2s have worked extremely hard at working out which numbers are in the Ones, Tens and Hundreds column. The 1/2 teaching team are extremely impressed with our students who now have an understanding of Place Value. For the remainder of the term, we will be investigating 2D and 3D shapes, money, maps and some addition and subtraction.

Inquiry – Water

This term, the students have been engaging in learning all things Water! We have looked at the Rain Cycle and different bodies of water. At the moment, the students are designing their own water-based theme park. The students have designed the areas and rides that will be at their park from Kid Zones to a personalised McDonalds. Students are now working on publishing their work. Keep an eye out on classroom windows to see some of the fantastic designs!
